On May 12, 2008, a deadly earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter scale rocked southwestern China and affected across China and beyond. A number of aftershocks occurred following the major quake. The confirmed death toll has risen to 11,921 by Tuesday, and is quickly rising. Still thousands of people in the worst-hit areas are trapped under the rubble, injured in rain, without electricity or any communication.
