Looking for a new language learning experience? French student, Pierre Didot certainly was, and he was pleasantly surprised that he found it not so far away from his home in France. Studying English in the United Kingdom, he admits, gave him the professional and practical edge over other job-seeking candidates, and he owes his current employment to his time spend in Oxford.

For Pierre, learning English was always just a hassle associated with high school exam periods. ‘I never imagined that I would need to use it in my everyday life, and never imagined finding a career after I finished my studies that would require English. I always imagined that I would be happy in France, working in a French company, but now after studying English in Oxford, my ambitions to work internationally have been born!’ Following his studies at an English language school Oxford, Pierre found that he not only was quite capable of speaking English – but enjoyed it! ‘It was a surprise for me, I must admit, but with the help of my English course Oxford I proved rather good at speaking and understanding English. Who would have thought it?’

Pierre laughs as he recalls his first memories of Oxford. ‘You know, it’s funny, when I arrived in Oxford I felt like I had seen it before, but then I realised it reminded me of Harry Potter, you know, the scenes when he arrives as well? Of course, I caught a normal train there, not some sort of magical wizard express, but I just felt a very strange connection with the place!’ His experience wasn’t all based in fiction though, and he enjoyed the many sites of Oxford on a daily basis, as he commuted from his family lodgement to the centrally located school to learn English Oxford.

So was it a recommended experience? Pierre agrees wholeheartedly. He mentions that he had the initial choice between learning English in Cambridge or Oxford, but that he now doesn’t regret his choice even for one second!
